Contract Description

The scope of work of the Contract included construction of a 1.3 mile bridge that spanned two canals, numerous rail lines, two local roads, the Des Plaines River, a major utility corridor and protected wildlife areas. In order to span those critical areas, Walsh was required to construct 34 piers, 2 bridge abutments, topped by 35 spans; 18 of which were pre-tensioned concrete spans and the remaining 17 were post-tensioned spans. The tallest of the completed spans was approximately 90 feet above the existing grade.
